Asian Beetles
Asian beetles are orange to red insects measuring about 1/4 inch long, distinguished from native ladybugs by their larger size and distinctive M-shaped marking behind the head. These beneficial predators become problematic in fall when they congregate in massive numbers on light-colored buildings, particularly those with southern exposure, seeking warm places to overwinter. Asian beetles can enter homes through small cracks and emit a foul odor and yellowish staining fluid when crushed or handled. Prevention involves sealing cracks and crevices before fall arrival, with professional exterior treatments recommended for severe infestations.
