Clothes Moths

Clothes moths are small, golden-buff colored insects that target natural fiber materials such as wool, silk, cashmere, and fur items commonly found in northern Illinois homes. Unlike their pantry-infesting relatives, clothes moths avoid light and prefer dark, undisturbed areas like closets, storage boxes, and beneath furniture. Look for irregular holes in clothing, carpets, or upholstery, along with silken cases or tubes created by larvae. These destructive pests are particularly problematic during humid summer months in the Crystal Lake area and can cause irreversible damage to valuable clothing and textiles if left unchecked.
